Black Sea Region Update

April 6th, 2022

Industrial zone of Odessa sea port. Port harbor with grain elevator terminal and container area.

It’s been more than a month since the Russia-Ukraine conflict started. Previously, we have informed that the Odessa port, a strategic port in the Black Sea region (and Ukraine’s largest), had been blocked as a result of the conflict and to this day, remains temporarily closed.

Odessa, being one of Russia’s primary targets; had, so far, escaped the worst of the conflict until Air strikes rocked the strategic Black Sea port last Sunday on April 3rd.

The high-precision sea and air-based missiles targeted an oil refinery and three storage facilities for fuel and lubricants, according to Firstpost. The attack produced three columns of black smoke with flames that rose into the sky. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported.

The recent event suggest that the port will remain closed until further notice.

We will keep you informed regarding this unprecedented situation and hope that Ukraine will soon resume trading with the world.
